Last night in the New York Program class, I was playing show and tell with the upcoming issue of ADDitude Magazine in which a client and I are featured. Luann Kole is a great lady who has worked hard and come quite far in her life. Her "Personal Journey" story is featured in the June/July issue, and I weigh in as her coach.
As I was showing around the article, a program member commented that in my picture, the light was hitting me in such a way that it looked like I had a red streak in my hair. Another member commented that she thought it would be really cool to have a punked out, crazy-hair coach...
...which prompted me to tell the group that I have always wanted to put a blue streak in my hair.
It's true. When the band Heart released their self-titled album in 1984, Ann Wilson (the raven-haired singer) had a head full of blue steaks. Not overpowering, but noticeable. Ever since, I have wanted blue streaks.
I've always "played" with my hair. I get bored easily. I like different cuts and styles. When it gets long, I cut it short. When it's short, I vow to grow it long. I've had blond streaks in my brown hair and auburn highlights, but I've never actually put a primary color in it.
"Go for it!" the program members all excitedly chimed in. "Get two!" someone else yelled.
Now I ask you...in how many other professions out there can you experience your clients encouraging you to add blue streaks to your hair?
I'm very lucky. And that group coaching from my program members might just be the push I needed to add a blue streak or two.
