Every now and then, a "theme week" emerges with my coaching clients. This week and last, the theme is I want to slow down but I can't.
It's August, and everyone is feeling a little sluggish. It's hot. There are just a few weeks left before we get back into the swing of work or school, and before you know it, the holidays will be coming around again! It's the perfect time to relax, but no one can seem to do it. Why not??
The reason, if you ask me, is that ADDers are so used to operating on high speed and feeling stressed out that when the opportunity to slow down presents itself, we don't know what to do!
Have you found yourself looking for problems lately? Worrying about things long before you need to cross that proverbial bridge? Feeling restless and bored?
If so, you're certainly not alone. Slowing down is one of the toughest things for an ADDer to learn, but also the most essential.
Pretty soon, your life will be back in full swing. Would you rather approach that time feeling calm and centered, or feeling stressed and frantic?
When life and responsibilities pick up in September, think about how much more effective and productive you will be if you approach that time from a calm, centered, rested, and relaxed place.
In other words, relax, ADDers! Take some time off! Sleep in! Watch TV! Hit the beach! Enjoy the down time while you still have it. It will help you in the long run.
