I have always wondered why it would take me a week to recover from a vacation or anything else that breaks my routine. I finally learned that lack of sleep causes carb craving, which leads to overeating, added feelings of exhaustion and even depression. This creates a vicious cycle that is very difficult to break. I also know that ADD contributes to this, partially because of the sleep issues.
Well, I have done it again! Last week I spent the week babysitting for my grandchildren so that my daughter could begin her inservice as a Spanish teacher. I love my grandchildren (ages 5 and 18 months) and had a great time with them. But, being up early, playing on the floor, getting Bianca up from her nap to pick up Ethan from preschool at 2:00 pm, and sleeping in an unfamiliar bed for only about 6 hours a night, really did me in.
So, I am about to make yet another menu of healthy, easy to prepare food that will help me to stay on track. I hope it works, because next week I will be babysitting again!
