Not for me!
I'm happy to report that I am still out there and gardening! Wow, three gardening "sessions" and still going strong. I'm thrilled that I'm enjoying gardening enough for it to become an actual hobby, not just a distraction.
And one of the best parts about it is that I am getting one hell of a workout, every time. Carrying big bags of dirt uphill, bending down over and over to get rid of rocks, and - of course - all the shoveling, and raking. Not only am I sweating and increasing my heart rate, but my muscles are being worked, too. I keep waking up with a sore back, hips, and arms, but it's a good sore. I can use some toning in those areas!
You see, for me, the gym just doesn't cut it. I hate trekking to the gym. I hate fighting for the machines when the place is crowded. And worst of all, I get bored.
But being outdoors and physical, now that I can enjoy! Walking briskly or hiking with the dogs, gardening, kayaking, etc., these are activities that offer the benefits of cardio and muscle building exercise, and they are so much more fun than the gym.
If you want to exercise but can't seem to keep up with a gym routine, try getting outside.
What types of exercise do you enjoy? Please post your comments.

Right On!!! Tried the YMCA / Gym thing for 3 years. It was everything you described and more. Purgatory for ADDers...
Unfortunately, I don't like doing the run/hike thing... less wonderful in the city, also crowded and noisy like the gym. Plus middle-aged knees don't like pounding the concrete! (Managed to get through a 5-mile race in Chi-Town last year... but never again. Oy!)
So, for me the answer is a really good eliptical cross-trainer machine (cost of gym for 1 year!) in a spare room, with a TV and Stereo. Hand weights, exercise bands and a big 'ol back ball. Micro Gym for 1!
The most important thing is to do whatever it takes for you to get a cardio and strength workout 2-3 times a week, however you do it!!!

I CANNOT stick with a gym routine - but I started riding my bike to work (9 miles each way). It's the best thing I have ever done. I'm stronger, more alert, and just generally easier to deal with when I've had my mornign ride :)
